A woman identified as Monsuratu Arogundade, who dumped her three months old baby on the street of Ugbe Akoko in the province of Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo state has been released by the police, following the reasons she gave for abandoning the child.
Monsuratu aged 23 years, dumped her three months old baby on the street, leaving the child unattended to and ran away, but with the help of a good and a kind hearted Samaritan, the baby was picked up and the matter reported to the police.
Reports have it, that the baby was later handed over to the Officials of the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, who proceeded to investigate the matter surrounding the mother’s disappearance.
Monsuratu who later appeared at the office of a Lawyer located at Ikare Akoko, met with a lawyer identified as Mr. Lane Kareem, and narrated why she abandoned her child, stating that she lost her mind when she took the decision of dumping her baby and further pleaded that the government should release her baby to her.
She said ;
“I want to beg the government to pardon me and release my baby to me; I didn’t know what I was doing that day; I lost my mind at that period,” she stated.
Mr. Femi Joseph, State Public Relations Officer, stated that the young woman will not be prosecuted according to the law because of the baby, owing to the fact that child is still young and needs his mother.
