The first lady ever to win the Miss Nigeria pageant in the year 1957 maiden edition, was Grace Atinuke, she was born on November, 16th, 1931,and now clocks 87 years of age.
Miss Nigeria pageantry stated in the year 1957, as a picture contest, were contestants posted photographs of themselves to the Daily Times Headquarters in Lagos.
Finalist were shortlisted and successful candidates were then invited to compete in a live show at the Lagos Island Club.
During the contest back in the days swim suits were not included in the pageantry competition.
Grandma Atinuke shares a insight of how her journey to pageantry, stating that her brother saw an advertisement in the newspapers and advised her to go to Lagos for an interview for the selection of a Miss Nigeria contestants.
She further stated that her brother actually applied for her, and asked her to go to Lagos for the contest.
Luckily for her, she worked with UAC foods then and they were also sponsors for the pageantry, so that gave her an advantage, and was able to travel to Lagos and she got to be one of the participants.
Presently Grace AtinukeOyelude is a grandmother and has got many grandchildren and she currently has a chieftaincy title as the Iyalolu of Isaludland and Iyalode of Okunland.
Her nephew, Pius Adesanmi, in on the 16th of July, 2018, posted the first picture of the graceful ageing first Miss Nigeria.
